January 10, 2002. Meeting was sponsored by Corporate Member Ace Lock & Security Supply. HES representative Art Koines of Koines & Allen invited HES Technical Sales Specialist George Alegria to discuss the installation, application and troubleshooting of HES electric strikes. George began by pointing out that almost all HES strikes are Grade 1, and in general he recommends electric strikes be used for fire barrier applications and magnetic locks be used in life safety applications. He discussed how to specify an electric strike and the features of various models - the 1003 can be specified with any of 26 different faceplates to work with almost any brand of lock (including 1" mortise deadbolt models); that the 7000 series will operate with up to 30 lb. preload; that the 7500 can be used for fire-rated doors; the 5000 series has a low profile for aluminum storefront applications, and the 9600 series of surface mount strikes for rim panic devices. Also discussed was the 2005 SMART-Pac in-line controller which will operate from 12-32 volts AC or DC, and includes an adjustable 2-8 second activation timer. Overall, an comprehensive line of electric strikes for almost any application.
